The Dummy's Guide to Real Revolution

Sat Dec 13, 2008, 11:18 PM
Ok, folks - I know with the following thoughts I shall be accused of siding with "the enemy" by people who have no arguments except to throw insults, but if you know me then you know the state and its cops have done NOTHING for me. However, I refuse to be so narrow-minded as to believe that the true enemy is always the one right in front of us. No one is happy that a young boy was shot but it is not as simple as throwing rocks at cops. This problem goes deep - the government does not handle or control its MAT and police force like it should... Why are we biting the toes of the dragon when we should be aiming for its heart?! And for god's sake let this victim just rest in peace. Stop making him the poster child for your own political purposes, what an insult. We are forgetting he was an actual person, not a symbol for our personal use. Obviously I do not mean to forget him or what happened to him - but now we are taking advantage of his death and it is disgusting.

This past week I am seeing that the ones hurting the country and the people are mostly us... they threw us into a grave and now we're digging it deeper. We are in a country where you can say anything you want, where you can actually stand on the street and protest... and we waste all this on meaningless bullshit, empty rage and temporary madness.

You know what scares the government more than anything?
INTELLIGENCE. The people being in control of themselves, the people organising themselves and the people focusing on making change. When we run wild in the streets, hurting each other and making a mess we are little children - and guess what, that's exactly how the government likes to treat us. Bravo, give them just what they want!

Open your eyes instead of lashing out with them closed. This violence is, like smoke, blinding us to the real issues - the actual fire burning within. It is a disgrace to draw attention from the true problems. I can't even see what people hope to achieve with this - unless you are an anarchist (or say you are, mmm) and only want chaos then what do you think you will get?

And about the rumours of plain-clothes policemen and neo-fascists taking part in the riots to discredit the protests: if there is any truth behind this then boy, aren't you glad you applauded them? Aren't you proud you gave your blind support to the mayhem without understand the people behind it and what their real motives were? And to those of you angry about the economic crisis: nearly 2 billion euros in damages is the figure I have been hearing. THANKS, THIS WILL REALLY HELP OUR SITUATION. Where the hell do you think this money is going to come from?! Say it with me, kids: THE PEOPLE. We're gonna bleed it out of our asses if we have to.

INFORM YOURSELF. Read, discuss, listen and question yourself as well as others.
Believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear over your morning frappe.
Turn off the tv and boycott the sensationalist media. They don’t care about giving us all the facts or all sides of the argument – only the thrill of this mad circus so that their ratings stay up. Turn them off until they become real journalists. TUNE INTO TRUTH.

Get out of your house and onto the streets. Protest, take a stand (or sit with candles, whatever lol) and add your face to the crowd. You feel something for these problems and these recent events? You want things to get better? Then prove it.
Throw away your apathy and this attitude of ‘it has been happening forever, nothing changed back then so why would it change now?’ Hey, here's a crazy thought: TRY.
Do not let mindless anger represent you, a human being with rights and a brain.
You do not put out fires with more fire, just like fighting with hate and violence does not succeed. Will you sink to their level?

Do not allow this moment to fade, leaving only the memory of some people burning cars and throwing rocks. We are used to that crap here – what’s different, what is exciting and new is people actually making positive changes.
The system cannot be rewritten in a week or a month, but we can make these moments the first steps towards it.

P.S.
Merry Christmas, everyone. Now more than ever we need to remember the spirit of these holidays: giving, caring and love. However much you think you have been screwed over, there are others worse off that you can help.
And to whoever burnt the Christmas tree at Syntagma: :(
You hurt our spirits more than you hurt the authorities. People had to look at that blackened tree every time they were in the centre of town, that shit is depressing not inspiring. Thanks, thanks a lot.

What scares them most is
That NOTHING HAPPENS!
They are ready
For DISTURBANCES.
They have machine guns
And soldiers,
But this SMILING SILENCE
Is uncanny.
The business men
Don't understand
That sort of weapon . . .
It is your SMILE
That is UPSETTING
Their reliance
On Artillery, brother!
It is the garbage wagons
That go along the street
Marked "EXEMPT
by STRIKE COMMITTEE."
It is the milk stations
That are getting better daily,
and the three hundred
WAR Veterans of Labor
Handling the crowds
WITHOUT GUNS,
For these things speak
Of a NEW POWER
and a NEW WORLD
That they do not feel
At HOME in.

Being completely and undeniably awesome - you know, the usual.

I'm (still) in Greece at the moment, last went back to Asia in 07. I'm not so much on DA anymore (can you tell?!) although I do check up on my deviantwatch every week or so. I'm hanging out on flickr more, really.

And yooooooou? I assume you went back to Vietnam to take some photos...
:iconwaragainstwars:
That awesome eh?? I hope to be half that awesome someday.

Greece that bad?? Are you still stealing things from restaurants like you told me about a looonngg time ago?? I went to Asia in '07 also, we might have seen each other... maybe. But seriously though, I'm about to graduate this semester and being stressed out very much. I shot most of what I want to use for the senior exhibition during the summer. I spent a month in Viet Nam, and loved it. Just working a lot right now, making money and photos. Thinking 'bout going to school in Paris.

Where in Asia did you go, I'm guessing... Laos..
